John Hess, evolutionary ecologist and photographer, will speak about his new book The Galápagos: Exploring Darwin's Tapestry (University of Missouri Press, 2009). The lecture begins at 7 p.m. followed by a book signing. Copies of Galápagos will be available for purchase on site. This event is free and open to the public. December 3, 2009 – Illustrating for Darwin: The Extraordinary Life of Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins

Robert McCracken Peck is a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, and a writer, naturalist, and historian. An active member of the Explorers Club, Mr. Peck has developed a special interest in the history of exploration. His books include A Celebration of Birds: The Life and Art of Louis Agassiz Fuertes (1982), Land of the Eagle: A Natural History of North America (1990), and most recently, All In The Bones: A Biography of Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins (2008).

October 29, 2009 – Darwin Goes Fishing: The Beagle Voyage and its Impact

Daniel Pauly is Director of the Fisheries Centre, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and author of Darwin's Fishes: An Encyclopedia of Ichthyology, Ecology, and Evolution (Cambridge, 2004). He also developed FishBase, the premier web-based encyclopedia of fish species (33 million hits/month).

October 1, 2009 – Darwin's Evolution as Naturalist: A Bird's-eye View

Lyanda Haupt is an author and naturalist in Seattle. Her works include Pilgrim on the Great Bird Continent: The Importance of Everything and Other Lessons from Darwin's Lost Notebooks (Little-Brown, 2006), and her latest book, Crow Planet: Essential Wisdom from the Urban Wilderness, will be out this July.

Four Darwin experts will visit the Linda Hall Library this year for a special lecture series. All lectures lectures will begin at 7 p.m. in the Main Reading Room
